Crawfish

July 12, 2008

We just finished a long day of shopping at Fashion Show, and was on our way to Ichiza for dinner. On the way there I was flipping through the Las Vegas Weekly and came across the review for Hot 'n Juicy Crawfish restaurant. I show the picture to my husband and say "want to go? It's on Spring Mountain!" He said "sure!"

This is how it works: You sit down at a plastic-covered table, and you get a plastic bib with a picture of a lobster on it. You order the crawfish, or shrimp, or snow, Dungeness or blue crab in season. You choose the seasoning style (Juicy Cajun, garlic butter, lemon pepper or the Hot n Juicy Special, which is a combo of the three). You specify whether you want it mild, medium, spicy or extra spicy.

We ordered 1 pound of crawfish, Hot 'n Juicy style (Mild), Dungeness crab, garlic & butter (Mild), 2 pounds Blue Crab garlic & butter (Mild). They bring the food in plastic bags and just plop it on the table – no plates, silverware, just the roll of paper towels. We dove into the crawfish, and it was spicy! And we ordered MILD! I ordered a bowl of rice to help with the spice.. but was glad when the Dungeness crab came so I could take a break from the spicy crawfish!

The only thing that I remember is that we had 5 pounds of seafood!!!! The food was great and the price was even better! We have been back since and it’s hot and juicy!!! And when I say it’s hot it’s HOT! We took mild both times and it’s HOT! I hope you go there it’s a really good place! And certainly not a first date place. Good sloppy food!

All in all I love the place! When we left I was so full, my lips were burning, and my fingers were raw! Great place to go hang out with friend, relax, eat and drink! More drinking PLEASE!

Blue Man Group

I FINALLY saw Blue Man Group – I’ve been here in Vegas for 5 years now, and my husband took me this weekend. The show was great, very entertaining, fun and the music was awesome! Thanks babe! You are welcome! I still think that Blue Man Group is one of the best shows in town like Stomp Out Loud!

Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 1991

We had this wine with our dinner at Todd’s Unique Dining (July 17, 2008) – I thought it was great (but what do I know about wine, except it tastes good!) This time at Todd’s I had the Colorado Rack of Lamb with pomegranate and black pepper, it was awesome! Very flavorful! (Rachelle) mmmm 1991 Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve! Now that is wine! Why? Simple the old school wine making and not over extracted, oak, alcohol! Wine is measured by one thing the test of time! I see all these big scores and when I taste American wines when they are old! They fall apart!

Todd’s Unique Dining

Saturday June 28, my husband took me to Todd’s Unique Dining on E. Sunset Road. I love this place! The food is the best! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. This is the second time that I’ve been there, and there’s only one thing that my husband will order from Todd’s - Braised Boneless Short Rib jalapeño mashed potato, “It’s the best thing on the menu.” This time I tried the Short Rib, WOW! It was moist, delicious, tender, and so yummy! If there’s ONE thing you have to try is the Braised Short Rib! If you have room for dessert – the Crème Brule melts in your mouth! Not to forget that Todd is a very good friend and that we have eaten everywhere in Las Vegas. But for the Money Todd’s is right there with the best of them and better!

Dutton-Goldfield Rued Vineyard Chardonnay Wine

I had this wine with dinner tonight (June 16, 2008) and it was great not too oak-y like other chardonnays I've tasted before! (like I know SO much about wine - ha!) Yeah I will attest to that! Wine is defined by one thing- You remember it! There is nothing more to it. You will remember this; where you where, who you were with, when, the food you had with the wine, the ambiance, the time, and many other details. It’s a specific memory that your mine will not erase!

My husband says it’s the "greatest piece of dirt in all of Russian River Valley; the vineyard was planted in 1969 by Warren Dutton. It's only a five acre piece of land and is the oldest chardonnay vineyard in that region. Dan Goldfield is the winemaker; and is considered the premier winemaker in America for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay." Is there anything to add here? I think not!

Wine Enthusiast rated the wine at 95 points

It’s a great bottle of wine, you should try it… “if you can find it, because it’s a rare wine” my husband says over my shoulder as he watches me type this blog. Just to make sure I get it right. Yeah I am here and I know that I am right! Since she will believe everything I say! Hahahaha!
